Eptek Art & Culture Centre, in partnership with the P.E.I. Crafts Council, will host the 2019 edition of Celebration of Craft in the summer of 2019. This is a similar undertaking to the 2003, 2007, 2011, and 2015 editions of the fine craft exhibitions organised by this same partnership. The theme for the coming exhibit is PEI’s natural history.
As in the past, the exhibition will aim to showcase the wide variety of craft produced on the Island and, particularly, to demonstrate to the public the wealth of talent to be found across the province. Celebration of Craft 2019, entitled P.E.I. Nature Inspires Craft is a juried exhibition. All artisans were asked to select an artifact as inspiration for their piece. Images of handcrafted artifacts made from P.E.I.-based materials and a variety of other items from P.E.I.’s natural history have been provided to inspire. The new work is not expected to be a replica of the original piece nor does it have to be in the same medium or materials. In other words, a new hooked mat might be inspired by something handcrafted using P.E.I. pine a hundred years earlier or a metalworker may be inspired by the bones of a P.E.I. animal.
Exhibition takes place at the Eptek Centre in Summerside from June until October 2019. : (902) 888-8373
