TEXTILES - pattern making

Twisted Knickers® Inc: Arlene Pearson MacAusland

I am a contemporary pattern maker for wool applique, tin punch and soft toys. I love all kinds of texture, pattern, colours and fabric. I prefer hand stitching over machine sewing but I do have a lovely embroidery machine and software to assist me in some production work of the bunnies, puppets and tea towels.
The wool applique pieces are entirely hand cut and stitched by hand. The patterns are inspired by my childhood, family and traditional skills of home and farm life in rural Saskatchewan. I use recycled and new wool fabric felted in the washing machine, wool blend felt and wool roving, velvet, beads, floss and yarns. I have a preference to create designs using circles or portraits of Prince Edward Island animals. I have two product lines for the wool applique; one available as patterns for the home sewer and a second line of collectible limited edition pieces (not available as patterns).
The bunny hug blanket design is my own creation. I fondly call them bunny hugs, a reference to the Saskatchewan term of a hooded jacket. The bunnies have hand stitched faces and the blanket and jacket edges are stitched by hand.
The tin punching is an occasional craft for me now. I love the play of light through the hammered holes and have several pieces hanging in my home windows.
The tea towels are inspired by Island life and sayings and my own twisted humour.
