Sandi Dewar Pottery

Sandi is a small batch home studio potter with a focus on atmospheric firing, exploring texture, chemistry and colour applied layer upon layer. Having been passionate about pottery since childhood, she can now pursue this medium during her retirement years.

Originally from Ontario, Sandi's studio is based in Clyde Rive, PEl where she finds much inspiration from the surrounding nature; the play of sunlight upon rough tree bark, the unfurling of a fern leaf, water lapping over smooth river rock and the deep gradients of a stormy ocean. Her work strives to capture the sweet curve and colour palette that entices you to want to hold her pottery, run your fingers over the surface and truly appreciate the magic.

Sandi's functional wares are primarily wheel thrown, hand painted, hand carved or faceted and burnished for a smooth, polished surface. They are food and dishwasher safe.

Sandi's atmospheric work is wheel thrown and then saggar-fired, raku reduction fired or obvara dipped and hand burnished with beeswax to seal and protect the surface, creating a warm satiny finish. Atmospheric firing is very intense and dynamic which can be unforgiving to pottery. Some pots may receive an artistic kintsugi repair to mend any breakages that occur during reduction, adding to their lovely uniqueness. Atmospheric pieces are decorative only and not water tight or food safe.
