Pottery Membership at THE STUDIOS
Pottery Membership at THE STUDIOS offers a great environment with many benefits.
We are located at 94 Water Street, Charlottetown with 24/7 access.
We have a friendly open philosophy where you build at your own pace and fire the kiln as needed.
We are a new studio and still building our membership so lots of opportunity to help us build an exceptionally creative and encouraging space.

Do people bring their own tools every time? YES
If people can keep the tools at the studio, is there secure storage or lockers for tools and personal supplies? YES, a small locker will be provided.
What about clay - will it be available for purchase there, or do people bring their own? And if they bring it, where do they keep it between sessions? NO, potters provide their own clay and glazes. Members are given shelf space for this.
Is there a drying area for pieces before firing? Usually pottery needs a consistent drying space so people know when items are ready for the kiln. Members have a shelf space for their pieces. Additional shelf space at an additional cost.
How will the kiln work? For example, if someone only made a few cups, would the kiln still be run for such a small load, or would people need to wait until enough work is ready? Members have two kiln firings per month with their membership. Members fire when they have a full kiln of their own pieces. The kiln is big, however extra firings at an additional cost is available .
Will glaze be available at the studio? NO, members bring their own glazes.
Who would be responsible for running the kiln? Whoever handles the firing would really need to understand which pieces and glazes can be fired together, as well as recognize when an item was not prepared properly and should be left out of the firing to avoid damaging other work in the kiln. Members are responsible for firing the kiln with their own pieces. Membership application requires meeting with Robert McMillian for kiln training. Robert will determine if the applicant is ready to work on their own in the studio.
What would happen with pieces that crack or break during drying or firing? In many pottery studios, broken pieces are collected and recycled back into reclaim or training clay, so people were wondering if there is a plan for that process as well. Members are responsible for reclaiming their own clay or disposing of it.
Is there room to display finished pieces. NO, finished pieces are to be removed from the studio immediately. There is no selling from the studio. The public is not allowed in the space, no visitors.
Are there additional costs? YES, Members are required to carry insurance.
Is parking included? NO parking is not included, however there is an unloading zone at the back of the building.
