Heart of Oak: Reg McClusky
Reg McCluskey is retired veteran having spent 25 years in the Royal Canadian Navy. Woodworking has been a hobby for him for over 50 years, mostly in the area of rebuilding sailboats. He is an avid sailor and he and his wife Maureen spent seven years cruising their former sailboat all over the Caribbean. After returning to Canada in 2004 Reg built their current home in Lower Montague and he was finally able to set up a woodworking shop of his own which had been a lifelong dream for him. A couple of years after setting up his shop he acquired a woodlathe at an auction with the intention of learning how to use it. The lathe sat idle for two or three years and at some point Reg decided it was time to learn how to turn. Following this decision he watched many hours of U-Tube covering many different projects. Huge piles of sawdust started to pile up and eventually many of his turnings started to sell. At this point he was hooked – Big time. All of a sudden the lathe, (actually his 3rd) was the center of his shop, the rest of the shop was merely support equipment for the lathe. Turnings started to amass and he started going to craft shows. Reg is not content just to be turning, he loves a challenge and enjoys taking on new projects and types of woodturning.
